To sow – to spread seeds over the land.  Spring is the time for the growers to plant the crops that become the delicious bounty that is Washington County.  The growers are hard at work in the fields and greenhouses that create the landscape of Washington County all for our dining pleasure.

Washington_County_Cheesemakers.cheese_tour_weekend_292_-_sweet_springs_farm.jpgThe producers are creating beautiful cheeses, artisan breads, sauces and grass fed meats to complement our farm fresh selections.  The anticipation of stopping to pick up corn still warm from the fields, coveting the peas from the farmers’ market, a dollop of cheese on fresh baked artisan bread, opening the CSA bag like a present anticipating the gifts inside, watching the calendar till we can pick blueberries, strawberries and raspberries.  Spring teases us for what the summer will bring.

The fields of Washington County do not only feed our enormous appetites, but create the beautiful landscape captured by local artist.  The fields feed the 22,000 cows that support the dairy industry of which Washington County ranks number one in New York State.   Can you imagine a world without ice cream, butter or a cold glass of milk to dip that chocolate chip cookie.  May the sowing season prosper so that we may eat well.

Enjoy a beautiful drive through the county discovering the wineries that are part of the Upper Hudson Wine Trail, hard cider producers and distilleries.
